"Beauty Rich and Rare" – a sound-and-light exhibition that showcases the extraordinary flora and fauna unique to the continent of Australia – opened at the National Museum of Natural History. If you're visiting Washington, D.C. before July 5, 2020, you can find this exhibit on the second floor of the museum.
This immersive exhibition follows the experience of the botanists, astronomers, cartographers, and illustrators on Captain James Cook’s 1768 voyage as they observed the Transit of Venus in Tahiti, charted the coastline of New Zealand, and searched for Australia.
“‘Beauty Rich and Rare’ will take visitors on a journey of the senses – an immersion into light, color and sound that magnify the scientific achievements of the expedition and the sheer awe experienced by the explorers when they first encountered the natural wonders of Australia,”said Michael Lawrence, assistant director for exhibitions at the National Museum of Natural History.
The exhibition is a joint collaboration between the museum and the Embassy of Australia, and was commissioned by the National Library of Australia and created and produced by AGB Events.
