This new Smithsonian initiative will explore how Americans currently understand, experience and confront race, its impact on communities, and how that impact is shaping the nation's future.

Museum Exhibit on Epidemics Goes Digital

The exhibition Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World has taught visitors about Ebola, HIV/AIDS, smallpox and influenza. Now, with Outbreak recently updated to include information on the new coronavirus, the exhibition is available online so that people can access it easily from wherever they are.

Footage Captured of Cephalopod at Deepest Ocean Level Ever Observed

Michael Vecchione, a NOAA zoologist and curator at the National Museum of Natural History, and his colleague Alan Jamieson from Newcastle University captured video of two "Dumbo" octopuses at remarkable depths at the bottom of the Java Trench in the Indian Ocean.

Natural History Summer Explorations – Beginning July 13

Join us for a free virtual summer program series that allows youth to explore the world of natural history science in a fun and interactive way. The series of week-long themed online programs and activities is designed for children in grades 3-7, hosted by museum educators and features Smithsonian science experts. Each week we will explore a different natural science-based theme and provide a suite of daily live webinars, activities, and projects.
